Dr Peter Tumutegyereize

Peter Tumutegyereize holds a PhD in Mechanical Engineering and specialises in Sustainable Energy Systems, Systems Design for Post-harvest and Agricultural Processing, Waste Management and Resource Recovery.

Peter is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering, Makerere University where he teaches courses related to his areas of specialisation with a number of publications and 1 patent to his name.

He has done consultancies in developing Farm Management and Soil Fertility Plans, Irrigation Strategy and Green Growth Strategy among others. He is currently focusing on enabling students in developing reliable and efficient tangible solutions for sustainable utilisation of limited resources available.

Peter has led and conducted research in diverse areas of clean energy technology development; post-harvest technology and processing engineering; waste management and resource recovery; water-energy-food security nexus. Notably, is the smart indoor induction solar cooker, called the MakSol Cooker, that has been developed and made it to the top 10 in the Renewable Transformation Challenge 2023 by the International Solar Energy Society (ISES).

Peter’s research outputs are making a tangible difference at the household and community levels across Uganda. Notably, his innovations such as the multi-seed cleaner and the solar cooker have improved food processing practices, enhanced income-generating activities, and contributed to sustainable development within local communities.

Peter is an active member of the Pan African Society for Agricultural Engineering (PAE) and the Uganda National Young Academy (UNYA), reflecting his commitment to advancing agricultural innovation and engaging with the professional community at both regional and national levels.
