Prof. Tabuti is an educator, ethnobotanist, and researcher. He is pedagogically proficient and has designed and delivered many university courses. He has supervised over 50 graduate student.

Prof. Tabuti holds a Ph.D in Ethnobotany from Nowrwegian University of Life Sciences, got in 29.8.2003; a MSc. in Botany and BSc. from Makerere University got in 1997 and 1993 respectively. He also holds a Certificate in Forest Carbon Science, Policy and Management, Michigan State University.  2018.

His ethnobotanical research interests are aimed at identifying, promoting, and conserving useful plant species. He is also interested in engaging stakeholders in climate change mitigation. He has conducted research covering plant ecology (floristic studies), tree propagation, seedling establishment, tree establishment studies, and identifying priority species for management and promotion. He has published over 50 articles in international peer reviewed journals. He is currently the local Principal Investigator for two international projects:

  1. Strengthening Education and Research Capacity for enhancing Biodiversity Conservation and sustainable Natural resources use – funded by DAAD
  2. Advancing Sustainable Agricultural Value Chains through Strengthening Transdisciplinary Skills and Cooperation in East African Doctoral Education –  funded by EU ‘Erasmus+’

Prof. Tabuti also has experience in the management and governance of academic institutions. His management skills include the management of capacity building and research projects. His flagship projects are the capacity building project for climate change mitigation at Makerere University. The second project is that of transforming Busoga University from a private to a public university.
