Prof. Archileo Natigo Kaaya

Archileo Natigo Kaaya (PhD (Mak); MSc (Univ. of Florida USA); BSc Agric (Mak), PGDE (Mak), PG Dip Food Security ((IAO, Italy).)

Professor of Food Science/Technologist

Department of Food Technology and Nutrition, School of Food Technology Nutrition and Bioengineering, CAES, Makerere University.

Archileo Natigo Kaaya is a Ugandan male, married with children and is employed by Makerere University at the Position of Professor. He has the following qualifications:

 

    • 2005. PhD (Food Science and Technology), Makerere University/Virginia State University, USA 

    • 2000. Postgraduate Diploma in Food Security. Istituto Agronomico Perl’oltremare (IAO), Firenze, Italy.

    • 1995: Master of Science, University of Florida, USA. Major: Postharvest Technology.

    • 1991:  Postgraduate Diploma in Education, Makerere University. Major: Biology and Agriculture.

    • 1988: Bachelor of Science, Agriculture (Hons), Crop Science Option.

Prof. Archileo Natigo Kaaya is former Head (2011-2019), Department of Food Technology and Nutrition, College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, Makerere University, Kampala – Uganda and also former Deputy Dean (2009-2011) in the then Faculty of Agriculture, Makerere University. He has been teaching and conducting research and outreach activities for more than 30 years.  

He has supervised 30 MSc and 9 PhD students to completion in areas of Food Safety (especially aflatoxins), Food Science and Human Nutrition. He has published over 80 publications in internationally recognized refereed journals.

 He is currently a PI and Co-PI of five international research projects addressing issues of food and nutrition sciences. 

He is the leading researcher on aflatoxin contamination of foodstuffs in Uganda. 

He is the Chair, National Technical Working Group on aflatoxins and also Chair, Uganda National Bureau of Standards Technical Committee 2 that addresses standards for cereals, legumes, pulses and related products.
