The Department of Extension and Innovation Studies (DEIS) has received an assortment of IT equipment for online training during the current and post COVID-19 era.

The equipment was donated and delivered to Makerere University by the representatives of Sasakawa Africa Association on 2nd February, 2021.

The equipment was handed over by the Country Director Sasakawa Africa Association Uganda Dr. Roseline Nyamuntale and  the Director Human Resource Department of Sasakawa Africa Regional Office Addis Ababa Dr. Mercy Akeredolu.

The training equipment was received by the Principal College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences (CAES) l represented by Dr. Abel Atukwase who is also the Dean, School of Food Technology, Nutrition and Bio engineering in the Department’s Video Conferencing facility witnessed by the Head and staff members.

The Head Department of Extension and Innovation Studies Prof. Nelson Turyabwe expressed appreciation for the support offered by SAA saying, it will boost online teaching and extension services.

“We have received four projector screens, ten desktops, two laptops, a printer, two professional photo and video cameras and five memory cards for the camera.

We are going to receive two pickle projectors which are still with customs. These projectors use solar and you can have them in the field even if you do not have power.

 All these items have been given to us to support e-learning and it is part of the partnership we have with Sasakawa Africa Association”, Prof. Turyahabwe explained.

Prof. Turyahabwe said Sasakawa Africa Association wrote a proposal, after conducting an assessment and interacting with the department on the need to have these items to help in teach during this current and Post COVID -19 era.

 He said the new normal dicatates running extension and teaching online.

“So you cannot go online when you don’t have these facilities to help you in documentation and packaging information that you can use to teach students online.
