Dr. Peter Wasswa
Plant Molecular Virologist
He obtained a PhD in Plant Virology from University of Greenwich, UK; a MSc in Biotechnology from Makerere University, Uganda; and a BSc in Agriculture, Crop Science, from Makerere University, Uganda.
Dr. Wasswa has a range of multidisciplinary skills in plant viruses (e.g., Geminiviruses, Potyviruses and Ipomoviruses) and plant pests (whiteflies and aphids).
He has specific skills in serology, conventional PCR, real time PCR, DNA cloning, sequencing, deep sequencing, tissue culture, thermotherapy, surveys and field trials. He has taught undergraduate and postgraduate students for 10 years. He has supervised to completion 11 MSc students and 2 PhD students.
He has led and participated in several international projects. He has authored and co-authored 20 publications in peer-reviewed journals. Peter is the Chairperson, Uganda Biotechnology and Biosafety consortium (UBBC) – a coalition of different stakeholders interested in safe application of biotechnology for national development.
He is also a member on the Institutional Biosafety committee of the National Agricultural Research Organization. Download CV below.
