Gabriel Karubanga, PhD(Mak); MSc(Mak); BSc(Mak)

Dr. Karubanga Gabriel holds a PhD in Agricultural and Rural Innovation of Makerere University, Uganda. He is a Lecturer in the Department of Extension and Innovation Studies, School of Agricultural Sciences, College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences at Makerere University. He has a teaching experience of over 13 years in a university. He was a Post-Doctoral Fellow at Makerere University focusing on the potential of participatory, and information and communication technologies’ (ICTs)-led extension and learning approaches in agricultural and environmental education in Africa.

His research interests include agricultural innovation systems, agricultural extension and education, communication for development including ICT-based approaches to stimulate agricultural innovation. He has also special interest in knowledge management and communication, community outreach, action research, planning, monitoring and evaluation of agricultural and rural development programs.

Dr. Karubanga has engaged him self in active research and some of his projects include:

Enhancing the Capacity of Faculty and Students on the Bachelor of Agricultural and Rural Innovations (BARI) External Degree. Funded by Michigan State University (MSU’s) Global Center for Food Systems Innovation (GCFSI) from 2020-2021; Strengthening academic supervision and mentorship for enhanced completion rates of graduate students in the Department of Extension and Innovation Studies, Makerere University. Funded by Carnegie Cooperation of New York under supporting Early Career Academics through Directorate of Graduate Training and Research, Makerere University from 2021-2022;Farm Forestry intervention for increased Crop Productivity and livelihood resilience to climate variability in Eastern Uganda. Funded by Makerere University Research Innovation Fund from 2021-2022; Farm Forestry intervention for increased Crop Productivity and livelihood resilience to climate variability in Eastern Uganda. Funded by Makerere University Research Innovation Fund from 2020-2021; Potential of participatory, and information and communication technologies’ (ICTs)-led extension and learning approaches in agricultural and environmental education in Africa. Dr. Karubanga has been awarded and recognized at a number of events, including: Post-Doc Fellowship by Carnegie Corporation of New York through RUFORUM Post-Doctoral programs from 2018-2020; Certificate of Recognition for tireless dedication and excellent coordination of recess term and for providing various technical support to the school of agricultural sciences; Certificate of recognition for participation in the African Studies Association (ASA) Conference by Corporation of New York in 2019
