Prof. Jacob Godfrey Agea
Professor of Applied Agricultural, Ethno-Sciences and Food Security
Department of Extension and Innovation Studies, School of Agricultural Sciences, CAES, Makerere University.
He holds a First-Class Bachelor of Science Degree in Forestry (MAK), a Master of Science Degree (Forestry) (MAK), and a PhD in Agriculture (Applied Ethno-botany & Food Security) of Bangor University (formerly University of Wales), United Kingdom (UK).
He is the Uganda Government Representative in the Inter-governmental Science- Policy Platform
on Biodiversity & Ecosystem Services (IPBES), at the UN Campus, Platz der Vereitein, Nationen
1, Bonn, 53113, Germany (From October 2023 to date).
Professor Agea is a member of Makerere University Intellectual Property Management
Committee since January 2023 to date. He is also a member of the Appointment & Promotion
Committee of the School of Agricultural Sciences (SAS) at the College of Agricultural and
Environmental Sciences (CAES), Makerere University Kampala (MAK)
He was formerly the Acting Head (2013–2014) and a Substantive Head (2015–2019) of the
Department of Extension and Innovation Studies in the School of Agricultural Sciences, College
of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, Makerere University Kampala (MAK), Uganda.
Besides, he was the Director of the Makerere’s Continuing Agricultural Education Centre
(CAEC), Kabanyolo (2012–2015).
Professor Agea was a Senate Member representing the School of Agricultural Sciences (SAS) in
MAK Senate (2015-2019). At Senate he was a member of The Central Ad Hoc Examination
Irregularities & Malpractices (Alteration of Marks) Committee. He was also a member of
Kizza’s Committee (Committee tasked with the duties of reviewing & advising the Makerere
University Management on innovative ways to improve Graduate Education at Makerere
University).
Professor Agea chaired the Welfare Office of Makerere University Academic Staff association
(MUASA) (2015 – 2017) and Academic & Research office of MUASA (2012 – 2014).
Professor Agea is also a Policy Committee Member of Makerere University Agricultural
Research Institute Kabanyolo (MUARIK) since 2013.
