Makerere University Centre for Climate Change Research and Innovations (MUCCRI) was launched in 2013. The MUCCRI establishment efforts are motivated by the need to strengthen climate change research, innovations and information generation and dissemination in the university by providing a one stop centre for climate change research and innovations. The Centre is designed to work under four major themes namely  Climate Science    Mitigation   Adaptation, and Policy, Training and Outreach.

The Centre is planned to be a semi-autonomous entity under Makerere University College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences (CAES), answerable to an Advisory Board. The board will be composed of members from Makerere University, and representatives from relevant Organisations and Government Departments. Thematic work is designed to be overseen by a Scientific Committee. The day-to-day running of the Centre is carried out by a Coordinator.
