Benon Nabaasa Baguma

Benon is a graduate student pursuing a PhD in Geography at Makerere University. He is an Environmental Researcher, Consultant, Geospatial Analyst and Founder, Map Handle Consults with experience working on several different projects and producing many types of research and spatial data products. He has strong professional and academic experience in leveraging and supporting research technology tools such as Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Remote Sensing. Benon is a junior scholar at the Department of Geography Geoinformatics and Climatic Sciences, Makerere University. His fields of competency include natural resources and ecosystem services mapping and survey, GIS, Geospatial analysis and Earth observation, Permaculture, Participatory GIS and Community Based Participatory Planning, climate change, urbanization and energy transitions. Benon has been an active researcher, reviewer and has several publications to his name. He is passionate about natural self-sustaining systems and livelihoods, systems like pastoralism, subsistence farming and all systems that imitate nature.

Benon holds a BSc. Conservation Forestry and Products Technology, an MA Geography and currently, Benon is a NORHED SET Project PhD candidate at the Department of Geography Geoinformatics and Climatic Sciences, Makerere University where he is investigating geographies of energy transitions in East Africa.
