Launch of the “Makerere University Centre for Climate Change Research and Innovations (MUCCRI)” at CAES.
The Makerere University College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences in collaboration with the Rockefeller funded Project entitled; Strengthening East African Resilience and Climate Change Adaptation Capacity through Training, Research and Policy Interventions is launching the “Makerere University Centre for Climate Change Research and Innovations (MUCCRI)” on Tuesday 30th July, 2013 starting at 9:00am at the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences.
The centre is a new initiative that will develop capacity to address critical issues of climate change adaptation research, policy development and implementation in East Africa starting with Uganda. The centre will aim at managing a regional climate change community of practice with East Africa to focus, leverage and harmonize efforts as well as address scalability issues. It will also coordinate key climate change activities to include; undertake critical research on climate change adaptation within the framework of a competitive grant scheme in order to generate knowledge and technologies on adaptation in forestry, agro-meteorology, climate science, arable agriculture and livestock production, and natural resources management, by extending current research and establishing new research programmes, creating a regional community of practice on climate change adaptation in agriculture to increase knowledge-sharing and collaboration on capacity development, research, and policy engagement, and engaging collaboratively on policy issues related to climate change adaptation.
