Research Grants Office opened at CAES by the Vice Chancellor

• This is the 3rd Grants office in Makerere University
• Funded by SIDA Carnegie Foundation at a cost of $7000 through the Directorate of Graduate Research and Training and Quality Assurance
• VC calls on senior staff to support and build capacity of junior staff in research 
• DGRT calls on Management to recruit Desk Grants Officers in each college 

Makerere University College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences (CAES) has opened the Research Grants Office to assist staff in securing resources to support cutting edge research, innovation and outreach to the community. This is third pilot Grants office in Makerere University including the College of Health Sciences and the College of Humanities and Social Sciences.

Makerere Entrepreneurship Students’ Club under “Solve the Equation East Africa (SEE) holds its first exhibition

• The Liquid Organic Fertilisers enterprise emerges best exhibitor 
• Students urged to be innovative, hard working and to commercialise their ideas 
• An ice cream project and students entrepreneurial training in the offing

The Makerere University Students’ Entrepreneurship Club under the Solve the Equation East Africa (SEE) has held its first innovators exhibition at the school of Agricultural Sciences. 

The best exhibitor receives a prize from the Chief Guest and Club Patron.

Prof. Elly N.Sabiiti Recognised For His Service To The Makerere - Sida Collaborative Research Progra (2000-2015)

The Vice Chancellor Makerere University Prof. John Ddumba- Ssentamu has recognised Prof. Elly N. Sabiiti for his service to the Mak – Sida Collaborative Research Program. This was during the end of the Mak - Sida International Research and Innovations Dissemination Conference that took place from 20th -21stApril, 2015 at Hotel Africana, Kampala, Uganda under the theme: “Community Transformation through Research, Innovations and Knowledge Translation". 

Prof. Sabiiti initiated the program in 2000. He was appointed program coordinator by the School of Agricultural Sciences. This Mak-Sida program will be ending in August 2015. By the end of the program ten (10) members of staff would have graduated with PhDs. Already eight (8) have completed.

Makerere launches an AGRA funded program worth USD 2.6 million towards training of Plant Breeders for Uganda and other countries

A five year project worth USD 2.6 Million was on 10th April, 2015 launched by the Deputy Director, Directorate of Research and Graduate Training (DRGT) Prof. David Owinyi Okello at Makerere University Research Institute Kabanyolo. Also present was AGRA Program Officer Dr. Rufaro M Madakadze, the Principal CAES Prof. Bernard Bashaasha, staff and students of the Cohort 1V.

A team from Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA) visit Makerere to benchmark the operationalisation of the Collegiate system.

A seven- man team from Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA) made a three days visit to Makerere University to study how Makerere University was fairing following her transition from Faculty based to a Collegiate system. 

 

SUA is in the process of restructuring with special emphasis on the proposed School of Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness. The lessons picked from Makerere would help them make informed decisions. 

 

The SUA team arrived in Uganda on 29th March, 2015 and was on campus from 30th March to 1st April. They first visited the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences and interacted with the Principal Prof. Bernard Bashaasha and other staff.
