Ag. Deputy Principal - CAES hands over office

Ag. Deputy Principal College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences (CAES) Prof. Frank Kansiime has handed offer office to the New Deputy Principal Dr. Goretti  Nabanoga Nsubuga. The ceremony was held on Friday 10th May 2013 in the conference room School of Agricultural sciences.

Dr. Goretti Nabanoga received the instruments of power which included the keys to the office and files mainly University policies and college documents. Items in the office included a desktop computer, an office desk, executive chair, foldable table, a shelf, one locker, two telephone headsets, a small table to hold a printer and printing paper .It was reported that a printer had been ordered.


The function was presided over by the Ag. Principal CAES, Prof. Samuel Kyamanywa and witnessed by officials from Audit department, the Directorate of Research and Graduate Training and college staff.

In his remarks and hand over report, the outgoing Deputy Principal Prof. Frank Kansiime said, the hand over follows the Vice Chancellors  letter  dated May 6 ,2013  that requested him to hand over to the New Deputy.

Prof. Kasiime thanked everybody in CAES and other units of the University for the Support and guidance since he assumed office as Ag.  Deputy Principal in January 2011 and pledged the necessary support to his successor.

 “ I will give the  In -coming   Deputy Principal, Dr. Goretti Nabanoga Nsubuga the necessary support  that she may require to settle in as  soon as possible. It has been a pleasure working with different people in the college and the university at large. The collegiate system has enriched my experience”, He remarked.

Prof. Kansiime outlined the programs offered in the college saying the teaching and learning process was going on well. He however implored the incoming deputy to institute mechanism for centralised timetabling, avoid a scenario of lecturers teaching in the last weeks of the semester, and to follow up with Directorate of Human Resources to address the problem in some departments where teaching was dominated by part timers.

The professor further advised the New Deputy to follow up with the centre to address the issue of the deployment of   a registrar for the School of Agricultural Sciences, rectify the teaching of graduate students so that it falls within the semester system, and also put a mechanism in place to monitor the number of students in the college.

He also expressed the need to lobby for the Records Assistant and Registrar in charge of Graduate issues at the college level and updating of some graduate course codes especially for the School of Agricultural Sciences and Food Science.

Prof. Kansiime also told his successor to look into ways of reactivating various committees in the college to make them more functional by providing a clear almanac so that members can plan accordingly. He implored the New deputy to streamline record keeping, information flow to staff and students, work together with Deans, Heads and set aside time to provide student support.

In her acceptance remarks, the incoming Deputy Principal Dr. Gorreti Nabanoga  Nsubuga thanked members for attending the handover ceremony  and requested the outgoing Deputy and all colleagues for their continued support pledging to work with everybody.

“I may look fierce but I am very open and I prefer people to talk in front of my face on a collegial approach but not behind my back. So, when I call on you don’t hesitate to respond”. She appealed.

She said she will be waiting for her Terms of Reference and promised to give a presentation at an opportune time on how she will be working with the incoming Principal to move the college forward.
