Rapidly increasing population and urban migration across Africa and other developing regions of the world are creating new and complex challenges. The current water and land-use changes in urban and peri-urban regions have serious consequences for water and food security, lifestyle, environment, health and the overall well-being of urban and peri-urban communities.

Mak releases another new soybean variety Maksoy 6N

A new soybean variety Maksoy 6N has been released to the public.

The new variety is resistant to soybean rust disease, harsh conditions, lodging and pod shuttering.

It is also high yielding (2-3.5 tons per hectare), early maturing with high protein and oil content of 41% and 20 % respectively.

This new variety matures in 93 days and has a yield advantage of over 58 kg ha -1 over the current highest yielding soybean variety in Uganda (Maksoy 4N).

On the other hand, it has a yield advantage of 212 kg ha -1 over Maksoy 3N which is the most popular and preferred soybean variety in Uganda.

Makerere University with support from the Korean Intellectual Property Office (“KIPO”), the Korea Invention Promotion Association (KIPA) Chonbuk National University and Dooypork Inc. has launched an Agricultural Appropriate Technology Research Center (ATR).
