The National Biodiversity Data Bank (NBDB)

The National Biodiversity Data Bank (NBDB) was established in 1990 as a direct response to conservationists’ need to have a central biodiversity data and information repository that would readily avail data and information regarding the country’s biodiversity to scientists, conservationists, researchers and policy makers so as to aid in research, conservation and informing the decision making process. With initial funding from USAID, the unit was established in the then Makerere University Institute of Environment and Natural Resources (MUIENR) that would act as a central repository for biodiversity information within Uganda. The mission of the data bank is: “to inventory and monitor the national biological resources and provide biodiversity information to conversationalists, government agencies, land managers and others interested in the conservation and sustainable utilisation of these resources” Click here to the Center's website
